Questions To Ask At The End Of An Interview

Back to Blogs

Coming from a Gaelic football background, I look at interviews like the gruelling pre-season winter training that everybody hates, but is impossible to run away from. If you want to compete in the summer months in the heart of the championship, your pre-season preparation will set you apart from your opposite number. The harder you train and prepare, the higher the chances are of being victorious.

But after all your preparation and hard work throughout the year, you need to finish strong and be on the winning side when that final whistle blows. The same logic will help you clinch that dream job, make that final good impression at the final stage of your interview. Below are some key questions you should ask at the end of any interview to help you stand out from the crowd!

Why is this vacancy open?

This question may look a little bold, but is a valid question worth knowing. The main reason why people leave their new job in the first few months, is because they didn’t really know what they were getting into in the first place.

What is the short-medium term vision behind this role?

Now you are taking the next step in the door. Believe me, there is only a small minority of people that will have the confidence to ask this question. Now the CEO/Company Director who is interviewing you sees that you are a little different than the previous candidate. Also, with this question you are getting to know more about the company, and most importantly if this is the company for you.

How do you think I would fit within the team?

Cultural fit is critically important to your success within any company. Again, before you start you want to know something about the people you will be working with. Remember, these are the people you will work with on a daily basis and will aid your success. Knowing this before you start gives you the confidence in knowing that you have made the right decision.

Remember to have insightful questions prepared at the end of every interview, to ensure that you are on the winning side at that vital final stage!!
