Company Overview (this is not a Contractor position)
I am working with a well-established Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) services company employing approximately 120 staff, operating primarily within the maintenance and contract renewals sector. Their workforce consists of 50–60 mobile engineers working on client sites and approximately 30 office-based staff, delivering services across a diverse client base.
As part of their continued growth and commitment to best practice, they are creating a new Health & Safety Manager role to lead, develop, and embed a structured and proactive safety culture across the business.
Role Purpose
The Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all Health & Safety systems and processes across the company. This role will act as the central point of contact for internal teams, field engineers, and external clients regarding all H&S matters, ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Management
Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Health & Safety Management System
Ensure compliance with all relevant Irish H&S legislation, regulations, and codes of practice
Create and maintain policies, procedures, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS)
Maintain accurate H&S records, audits, and reporting structures
Site & Engineer Support
Carry out site inspections, audits, and risk assessments for maintenance and renewal works
Support engineers working on the road with safe systems of work and toolbox talks
Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
Promote a strong safety culture across a mobile workforce
Client & Contract Support
Act as the primary H&S point of contact for clients and main contractors
Manage prequalification questionnaires (PQQs), safety documentation, and compliance portals
Attend client meetings and audits as required
Ensure client-specific H&S requirements are understood and implemented
Training & Communication
Identify training needs and manage H&S training programmes for staff and engineers
Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, and safety briefings
Provide clear guidance and advice to managers and supervisors
Continuous Improvement
Monitor H&S performance metrics and report to senior management
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and best practice
Support ISO or similar accreditation processes if applicable
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
Proven experience in a Health & Safety role, ideally within M&E, construction, engineering, or maintenance environments
Strong working knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation
Experience dealing with clients and external stakeholders on H&S matters
Ability to work in a structured, organised, and methodical manner
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Full driving licence (site visits required)
Desirable
Recognised Health & Safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, Diploma or equivalent)
Experience supporting a mobile engineering workforce
Experience working in a contractor or services-based business
Familiarity with ISO 45001 or similar standards
