The Work

As the Health, Safety & Sustainability Manager, you will lead the EHS strategy for the Galway manufacturing site, ensuring a best-in-class safety culture and advancing our environmental and sustainability agenda. You will work closely with site leadership, operations, and corporate EHS/ESG functions to drive compliance, performance, and employee engagement.

  • Lead, maintain, and continuously improve the site’s EHS strategy in line with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with Irish HSA regulations, relevant EU Directives, and global EHS standards.
  • Manage and develop ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certified management systems.
  • Act as the primary EHS lead for external and internal audits and inspections (FDA, Notified Bodies, corporate audits).
  • Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Own daily, weekly, and monthly EHS reporting, dashboards, and key performance metrics for the site.
  • Coordinate and deliver EHS induction and ongoing training programs for all employees and contractors.
  • Support a multi-shift, high-volume manufacturing environment with proactive operational safety leadership.
  • Lead risk assessments for cleanrooms and controlled environments, automation and equipment safety, and chemical/hazardous material handling.
  • Ensure safe planning and execution of engineering projects, site expansions, and contractor activities.
  • Drive site-level sustainability initiatives in line with corporate ESG goals and targets.
  • Lead projects to reduce energy use, carbon footprint, waste (including regulated medical waste), and water consumption.
  • Support sustainability and ESG reporting requirements, including CSRD and internal ESG metrics.
  • Promote circular economy principles and environmentally responsible practices throughout the site.
  • Build and sustain a proactive, engagement-driven safety culture where everyone takes ownership for EHS.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to embed clear EHS accountability at all organizational levels.
  • Lead and develop a team of EHS specialists, supporting their growth, capability building, and performance.
  • Design and deliver EHS and sustainability awareness campaigns and training sessions.
  • Integrate EHS considerations into Lean, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze EHS and sustainability performance data and drive improvements through KPIs and action plans.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance safety, health, environmental, and sustainability performance across the site.

The Person

The ideal candidate is an experienced EHS leader who is passionate about safety, sustainability, and operational excellence, and who thrives in a fast-paced, regulated manufacturing setting.

  • Education: Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: At least 7 years of EHS experience within a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in an FDA-regulated or similarly highly regulated industry is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience leading sustainability or ESG initiatives, ideally within a manufacturing context.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish and EU health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Background in cleanroom operations or high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels and lead a specialist team.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Collaborative team player who builds strong relationships across functions and shifts.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience using KPIs and metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Hands-on experience with EHS management systems and software (e.g., Enablon, Intelex or similar platforms).
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Adaptable, curious, and committed to ongoing learning in EHS, ESG, and operational best practices.
