Engineering Manager | Maintenance & Reliability | Manufacturing | Longford

We are recruiting an experienced Engineering Manager for a well-established Irish manufacturing business based in the Midlands.

This is a newly created Engineering Manager position and an additional hire to the business, offering the opportunity to take a key leadership role within a highly automated manufacturing facility.

If you are currently working as an Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, Engineering Lead or Senior Maintenance Engineer and are ready to take the next step, this is an opportunity to lead a strong engineering function while having a real influence on plant performance, reliability and continuous improvement.

The Engineering Manager Role

Reporting to senior site leadership, you will lead the engineering function across maintenance, reliability, preventative maintenance, automation and continuous improvement.

This is not purely a desk-based management position. You will be visible on the production floor, supporting your engineering team, solving problems and working closely with Production, Operations and Quality to improve equipment performance and maximise uptime.

You will also have responsibility for engineering budgets, contractors, maintenance planning and the continued development of engineering systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop the site engineering and maintenance team
  • Drive equipment reliability, uptime and plant performance
  • Develop preventative and planned maintenance programmes
  • Manage and optimise the site's CMMS
  • Manage engineering budgets, resources and maintenance costs
  • Support fault finding across automated manufacturing equipment
  • Drive continuous improvement and engineering efficiency projects
  • Support automation and equipment upgrade projects
  • Manage engineering contractors and service providers
  • Ensure engineering activities meet Health & Safety and regulatory requirements
  • Work closely with Production, Operations and Quality on site priorities
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes and reduce downtime
  • Support engineering projects from planning through to implementation

What We're Looking For

You will ideally have:

  • Previous Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager or Engineering Team Lead experience within manufacturing
  • A Mechanical, Electrical, Automation or relevant engineering/trade qualification
  • Strong people-management and team-development experience
  • Experience within a high-volume or highly automated manufacturing environment
  • Strong preventative maintenance and equipment reliability experience
  • Experience using CMMS / maintenance management systems
  • Knowledge of automated production equipment and fault finding
  • PLC knowledge, ideally Siemens S7
  • Experience managing engineering budgets and contractors
  • Strong Health & Safety awareness
  • Experience delivering continuous improvement and engineering projects
  • A practical, hands-on approach to engineering leadership

Experience within manufacturing, food production, pharmaceutical, medical device, engineering or another regulated production environment would be highly relevant.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

The key attraction is that this is a new position rather than a replacement hire.

You will be joining an established manufacturing operation where engineering is critical to overall site performance, while having the opportunity to influence how the function develops.

For an Engineering Manager who enjoys leading people, improving equipment reliability and being close to day-to-day manufacturing operations, this offers a broad role with plenty of scope to make an impact.

What's Next?

If you're an experienced Engineering Manager looking to join a growing manufacturing organisation where you can make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
