About Your New Job

As a Civil Design Engineer, you will:

  • Deliver civil engineering designs for a variety of projects, focusing on active travel and urban infrastructure schemes.
  • Work on all stages of project delivery, from feasibility and preliminary design through to detailed design and construction.
  • Design roads, junctions, and streetscapes that enhance walking, cycling, and the public realm.
  • Prepare and review drawings, calculations, and technical deliverables according to relevant Irish standards and guidance (e.g. DMURS, NTA, TII, TSM).
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including landscape architects and structural engineers, to develop integrated urban solutions.
  • Guide and mentor technicians to deliver quality outputs.
  • Participate in meetings with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Undertake site visits for surveys, inspections, and provide construction support as needed.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and contract documentation.
  • Support project planning and programming to meet deadlines.
  • Engage with local authorities, utility providers, and other stakeholders as part of the design and approval process.
  • Contribute to design reviews, focusing on safety, accessibility, sustainability, and buildability.
  • Support quality assurance processes and help ensure compliance with internal procedures.
  • Share your knowledge and contribute to continuous improvement within the team.

What Skills You Need

  • Minimum 4+ years’ experience delivering civil engineering projects, ideally with a background in urban or active travel schemes.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering (Level 8 or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to deliver civil projects across all design stages.
  • Good working knowledge of Irish design standards and guidance.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage workload and thrive in a team environment.
  • Progress towards or interest in professional accreditation (e.g. Chartered Engineer) is desirable.
