Building Services Engineer

About Your New Employer

An established 3rd level education body with a complex operational estate is seeking a Building Services Engineer to provide immediate project and operational capacity within its Buildings & Estates function. Reporting to the Head of Building Services, the Building Services Engineer will coordinate priority works, contractors and stakeholders across a live environment where continuity of essential services is critical. The position offers an experienced professional the opportunity to take ownership of defined projects, drive actions through to completion and contribute directly to the delivery of important infrastructure and facilities initiatives. This is a temporary contract via Sigmar for 6 months initially, with the potential, subject to review to progress to a permanent role.

About Your New Job

  • Drive the planning, coordination and delivery of small to medium-scale building services, facilities and estates projects, ensuring actions remain on programme and are brought through to completion.
  • Coordinate contractors, consultants, service providers and internal stakeholders to maintain progress across multiple concurrent projects and operational requirements.
  • Own project actions, programmes, access arrangements, communications, documentation and close-out activities, providing clear visibility of progress and outstanding issues.
  • Lead the coordination of infrastructure upgrade projects, managing access, contractor engagement, programme tracking, issue resolution and stakeholder communication.
  • Review project documentation including RAMS and method statements, ensuring planned works are appropriately coordinated before activities commence.
  • Coordinate site access works planning and contractor activity within a live operational environment, minimising disruption to essential services.
  • Drive follow-up actions arising from inspections, maintenance activities and project works, ensuring issues are progressed and closed within agreed timescales.
  • Manage communication between internal users, supervisors, contractors, consultants and external service providers to ensure expectations, requirements and constraints are clearly understood.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records, asset information, service reports and project documentation to support effective operational management and governance.
  • Coordinate maintenance and project-related actions through relevant helpdesk, maintenance management and tracking systems, ensuring priorities remain visible and actively managed.
  • Support planned critical infrastructure shutdowns and service interruptions, coordinating communications, contractor activity, access requirements and close-out actions, including occasional out-of-hours attendance where required.
  • As the Building Services Engineer, contribute to business continuity across critical building services and ensure priority works are coordinated effectively across the wider estate.

 What Skills You Need

  • Relevant experience in project coordination, project engineering, facilities, estates, construction, maintenance or another technical operational environment.
  • Demonstrable experience coordinating contractors, consultants, service providers or multidisciplinary teams within a live operational setting.
  • Strong project organisation and follow-up capability, with the ability to manage multiple live actions, competing priorities and deadlines through to completion.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of health and safety requirements, risk assessments, method statements, site access controls and safe systems of work.
  • Practical technical understanding relevant to building services, M&E, facilities, infrastructure, construction or maintenance environments.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office, email, records management and project or maintenance tracking systems.
  • Ability to coordinate planned works and shutdowns, including access, communications, contractor liaison, documentation and completion activities.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of defined projects and maintain momentum without requiring close day-to-day supervision.
  • Experience managing project documentation, compliance records, service reports, maintenance information and operational actions with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Flexibility to provide occasional out-of-hours support for planned critical infrastructure works where required, including shutdowns extending into late evening or early morning.
  • The successful Building Services Engineer will bring a practical, structured approach to project delivery and stakeholder coordination, with the judgement to operate effectively within a complex live environment.
