Job Title: Warehouse Operative

Reports To

Warehouse Manager

Job Purpose

To support the efficient running of the warehouse by handling goods safely and accurately, managing inbound and outbound stock, and ensuring all transactions are processed correctly. The role includes operating forklifts and ensuring compliance with company procedures, particularly within a medical and surgical equipment environment.

Key Responsibilities

Goods In & Receiving

  • Receive, unload, and check incoming deliveries against purchase orders and delivery notes
  • Inspect goods for damage, quality, and accuracy
  • Accurately record and book in stock using warehouse management systems
  • Store goods in appropriate locations, following stock rotation principles (e.g. FIFO)

Goods Out & Dispatch

  • Pick, pack, and prepare orders for dispatch in line with customer requirements
  • Ensure correct products, quantities, and documentation are included with all shipments
  • Coordinate with carriers for timely collections and deliveries
  • Maintain high standards of packaging to protect medical and surgical equipment

Stock Control & Transactions

  • Maintain accurate inventory records and carry out system transactions (goods receipt, transfers, dispatch)
  • Participate in regular stock counts and cycle counts
  • Report discrepancies and assist in investigations

Forklift & Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate forklifts (e.g. counterbalance/reach) to move and store goods
  • Conduct pre-use safety checks on equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations during operation

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Follow company guidelines relating to handling medical and surgical equipment
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised warehouse environment
  • Use appropriate PPE where required

General Duties

  • Assist with loading and unloading vehicles
  • Work collaboratively with team members and other departments
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the warehouse
  • Undertake additional duties as required by management

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in a warehouse environment
  • Valid forklift licence (or willingness to obtain)
  • Understanding of goods in/out processes
  • Basic IT skills for stock systems and transactions
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work as part of a team

Desirable

  • Experience handling medical or regulated products
  • Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS)
  • Experience with stock control and inventory management

Working Conditions

Qualifications

  • Forklift certification (e.g. Counterbalance/Reach) – preferred
  • Minimum secondary school education (or equivalent)
