About Your New Job

As the Senior Packaging Engineer, you will work as an experienced technical specialist and individual contributor, taking responsibility for packaging projects and initiatives from design through to implementation.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Designing, developing and testing a wide range of containers and packaging solutions used to protect, display and handle products.
  • Defining packaging specifications based on product requirements, cost limitations, legal obligations and the level of protection required.
  • Assessing packaging performance against external factors such as moisture, corrosive chemicals, temperature variation, light, heat, rough handling and tampering.
  • Designing package exteriors with consideration for product identification, sales appeal, aesthetic quality, printing requirements and production methods.
  • Supporting prototype line development within manufacturing facilities and plants.
  • Managing packaging documentation and supporting the coordination of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Leading or contributing to projects designed to introduce new technologies, improve processes or enhance packaging performance.
  • Working with internal stakeholders, senior customers, suppliers and vendors to communicate requirements, resolve issues and achieve project objectives.
  • Providing guidance, coaching and technical support to less experienced colleagues.
  • Delegating tasks and reviewing work products where required as part of project or process leadership.

What Skills You Need

  • A Bachelor’s degree and at least four years’ relevant experience; or
  • A Master’s degree and at least two years’ relevant experience; or
  • A PhD with relevant academic or industry experience.
  • Strong experience in packaging engineering, packaging design, product development or a closely related technical discipline.
  • The ability to design, develop and test packaging solutions against product, regulatory, manufacturing and commercial requirements.
  • Experience managing technical projects or processes, from initial concept through to implementation.
  • Knowledge of documentation management and Good Manufacturing Practices, ideally within a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex issues and recommend practical improvements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, including experience working with senior internal and external contacts.
  • The ability to work autonomously while coaching colleagues and collaborating effectively across different functions.
