SENIOR FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT
An established west of Ireland construction business with a substantial workforce and a growing international footprint is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join its finance function. Reporting to the Group CFO, the Senior Financial Accountant will take ownership of core financial reporting, controls and month-end processes across the Irish business and international operations. This is a hands-on role with meaningful exposure to senior leadership, operational teams and project performance, offering the opportunity to strengthen financial processes as the organisation continues to scale.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the monthly management accounts and financial reporting process across Irish and international entities.
- Own the general ledger, ensuring accurate transaction processing and robust financial records.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable and supplier reconciliations to maintain strong working-capital discipline.
- Deliver bank, balance sheet and control account reconciliations, identifying and resolving variances promptly.
- Support the Group CFO with cash-flow forecasting, liquidity management and working-capital analysis.
- Develop and enhance project and job-cost accounting processes to improve visibility of financial performance across major projects.
- Optimise financial reporting systems and management information to provide clearer, more timely insight to decision-makers.
- Monitor revenue recognition, work in progress and project-related financial movements, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes against an agreed reporting timetable.
- Prepare VAT returns and other statutory and tax compliance requirements, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
- Partner with project and operational stakeholders to improve financial understanding, cost control and commercial decision-making.
- Strengthen financial controls and processes while identifying practical opportunities to improve efficiency, reporting quality and governance.
REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified accountant or finalist working towards ACA or ACCA qualification.
- Practice-trained accountant with relevant commercial experience preferred.
- Experience using Sage 50 & Sage Payroll is desirable.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and a sound understanding of financial reporting principles.
- Demonstrable experience preparing management accounts and delivering structured month-end reporting.
- Strong understanding of general ledger management, reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to understand how operational activity translates into financial performance.
- Experience working with project accounting, job costing, work in progress or similar financial reporting environments would be advantageous.
- Strong analytical capability, with the confidence to investigate variances and identify underlying financial issues.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and consistently deliver against an established reporting timetable.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior finance, operational and project stakeholders.
- A hands-on approach, with the ability to take ownership of responsibilities and work independently.
