  • Deliver bank, balance sheet and control account reconciliations, identifying and resolving variances promptly.
  • Support the Group CFO with cash-flow forecasting, liquidity management and working-capital analysis.
  • Develop and enhance project and job-cost accounting processes to improve visibility of financial performance across major projects.
  • Optimise financial reporting systems and management information to provide clearer, more timely insight to decision-makers.
  • Monitor revenue recognition, work in progress and project-related financial movements, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes against an agreed reporting timetable.
  • Prepare VAT returns and other statutory and tax compliance requirements, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
  • Partner with project and operational stakeholders to improve financial understanding, cost control and commercial decision-making.
  • Strengthen financial controls and processes while identifying practical opportunities to improve efficiency, reporting quality and governance.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified accountant or finalist working towards ACA or ACCA qualification.
  • Practice-trained accountant with relevant commercial experience preferred.
  • Experience using Sage 50 & Sage Payroll is desirable.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and a sound understanding of financial reporting principles.
  • Demonstrable experience preparing management accounts and delivering structured month-end reporting.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger management, reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to understand how operational activity translates into financial performance.
  • Experience working with project accounting, job costing, work in progress or similar financial reporting environments would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the confidence to investigate variances and identify underlying financial issues.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and consistently deliver against an established reporting timetable.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior finance, operational and project stakeholders.
  • A hands-on approach, with the ability to take ownership of responsibilities and work independently.
  • The successful Senior Financial Accountant will bring sound judgement, attention to detail and a practical approach to improving financial controls and processes.
