SENIOR ACCOUNTANT – GALWAY CITY – ONSITE
This is a newly created senior finance appointment with an established organisation that operates with strong commercial discipline and a clear focus on operational control. Reporting to the senior finance leadership team, the role will take ownership of key reporting, compliance, payroll, and cost processes that underpin decision-making across the business. It offers real scope to shape finance operations, improve visibility, and influence outcomes in a role with broad exposure and genuine commercial impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting across payroll, costs, accruals, and key balance sheet areas.
- Own payroll-related accounting, reconciliation, and reporting activities, maintaining accuracy, control, and compliance.
- Manage cost accounting processes to support clear visibility on operational spend, margin, and business performance.
- Produce management accounts and supporting analysis that inform leadership decisions and commercial planning.
- Deliver high-quality data analysis and reporting to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Oversee compliance and reporting requirements, ensuring internal controls and external obligations are met consistently.
- Partner with stakeholders across the business to clarify financial performance and support practical decision-making.
- Support procurement-related reporting and cost control activity, improving transparency around spend and commitments.
- Manage credit control activity where required, maintaining strong oversight of debtor balances and cash collection.
- Lead and develop people where applicable, creating structure, accountability, and confidence within the team.
- Improve finance processes and reporting outputs, driving greater efficiency, accuracy, and control.
- Contribute to wider finance transformation and operational improvement initiatives as the role evolves.
REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified accountant with 10+ years of experience in an SME or similarly hands-on environment.
- Proven background in payroll management and payroll-related accounting.
- Strong technical knowledge of cost accounting and management accounting principles.
- Demonstrable experience managing month-end close processes and reporting deadlines.
- Confident in financial data analysis, with the ability to interpret and communicate insights clearly.
- Experience working with people management, team coordination, or supervisory responsibility.
- Practical understanding of procurement, spend control, and cost visibility.
- Exposure to credit control or debtor management would be highly beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to balance accuracy and pace.
- Comfortable operating in a broad, commercially focused finance role with cross-functional exposure.
- Strong systems capability and confidence working with finance data and reporting tools.
- Professional judgement, discretion, and the ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders.
