You will join a multidisciplinary product development team based in Galway.

About Your New Job

Reporting to the Principal R&D Engineer, you will play a key role in the development of catheter-based medical devices, with an initial focus on catheter components, manufacturing processes, and supplier capabilities.

As an R&D Engineer, you will:

  • Design, build, and evaluate prototypes to support product development activities.
  • Develop test methods, test platforms, and bench models for device development, verification, and validation.
  • Design and execute experiments, analyse technical data, and use results to guide product design decisions.
  • Apply principles of mechanics, fluid dynamics, materials science, and statistics to solve technical challenges.
  • Develop assembly processes and manufacturing methods for catheter-based medical devices.
  • Apply Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly principles throughout product development.
  • Support validation activities for components, processes, and test methods.
  • Participate in design and process risk management activities, including DFMEA and PFMEA.
  • Work with suppliers and external partners to support component development and manufacturing scale-up.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, protocols, and development documentation.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Keep informed of relevant technologies, standards, and test methodologies.
  • Contribute to invention generation and intellectual property development.
  • Support demonstrations of company technology for clinical collaborators, investors, and other stakeholders.

This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who takes a first-principles approach to problem solving. You will be expected to break down complex problems, design experiments to test assumptions, and use data to drive engineering decisions.

What Skills You Need

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Materials, Polymer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum three years of product development experience within the medical device industry.
  • Practical experience in medical device design, prototype development, and laboratory testing.
  • Experience developing and executing experimental test programmes.
  • The ability to analyse technical data and use evidence to inform design decisions.
  • Experience working within a regulated product development environment.
  • Knowledge of medical device design controls and risk management processes.
  • Experience using SolidWorks and Microsoft Office.
  • A hands-on and methodical approach to technical problem solving.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with R&D, Preclinical, Operations, suppliers, and external partners.
