About Your New Job

As a Mechanical Quantity Surveyor, you will take charge of the financial and contractual controls throughout the mechanical aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate cost planning, management, and optimisation from initial tender to final account.

Main Responsibilities:

  • You will develop and manage detailed cost plans, estimates, bills of quantities, and tender submissions for mechanical systems, ensuring clarity and accuracy at every project stage.
  • You will oversee the procurement of mechanical subcontractors, materials, and major plant, including negotiating contract terms and managing supplier relationships to achieve project objectives.
  • You will track project spending, progress valuations, assess variations, and proactively address any deviation from budgets to maintain financial discipline on all assignments.
  • You will implement risk and value management strategies, prepare whole-life cycle costs, and drive value engineering opportunities for both the client and the contractor.
  • You will coordinate cash flow projections, manage interim applications and final accounts, and ensure efficient payment certification.
  • You will maintain comprehensive commercial and contractual documentation, abiding by relevant regulations and business policies.
  • You will collaborate with project leaders, site teams, engineers, and client representatives to define requirements, solve challenges, and maximise value.
  • You will support the resolution of commercial or contractual issues, offering clarity and guidance based on up-to-date industry standards and project terms.
  • You will stay informed about industry trends, material and labour price fluctuations, and emerging technologies that could influence cost strategies.
  • You will contribute to continuous improvement efforts in the commercial function, help implement digital tools, and provide mentorship to junior colleagues.

 

What Skills You Need

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor with mechanical, M&E, or building services projects in Ireland.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline.
  • Strong grounding in measurement, estimating, tendering, contract administration, and construction law (with a focus on building services).
  • Clear communication, negotiation, and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving capability.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and sound reporting competencies.
  • Full driving licence essential.
