About Your New Job

As the Laboratory Manager, you will take full responsibility for the leadership, coordination, and performance of both the Microbiology and Chemistry Laboratories. This is a hands-on management role with strong operational and people leadership elements.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, coach, and manage Laboratory Technicians across microbiology and chemistry teams, including shift employees.

  • Plan and optimise laboratory rotas to ensure continuity, efficiency, and alignment with business needs.

  • Coordinate daily analytical activities, prioritising workloads to meet operational and production requirements.

  • Track performance against KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Liaise closely with the Quality Manager, Grading Officer, and Operations team, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of results.

  • Ensure all laboratory results are accurately recorded in Bamboo-LIMS within required timelines.

  • Maintain full compliance with food safety, quality, and internal control standards.

  • Lead laboratory projects, method changes, validations, and training initiatives.

  • Manage proficiency testing schemes, performance reviews, and team development plans.

  • Interface with HR on employee relations matters and update HR systems on a weekly basis.

What Skills You Need

  • 2+ years’ experience in a quality management or supervisory role within food, healthcare, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.

  • A third-level qualification in Food Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.

  • Strong knowledge of quality systems and food safety legislation.

  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office (SAP experience highly desirable).
