Role Overview
The Head of Finance will lead and develop the finance function, ensuring it operates as a strong, forward-looking partner to the organisation. This role combines strategic input with hands-on leadership, overseeing day-to-day financial operations while contributing at a senior level to organisational planning and governance.
You will manage a small finance team, support the CEO, collaborate closely with the senior management team, and engage at Board level. A key focus will be strengthening financial controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting fundraising activities from a financial perspective.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Support the CEO in shaping and delivering the organisation’s financial strategy
- Provide insightful financial analysis to support decision-making and organisational growth
- Partner with senior management to align financial planning with strategic objectives
Financial Operations
- Oversee all aspects of financial management including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and cash flow management
- Ensure accurate and timely production of monthly management accounts and annual financial statements
- Maintain oversight of financial systems and processes, driving continuous improvement
Governance, Controls & Compliance
- Establish and maintain strong financial controls and risk management frameworks
- Ensure compliance with all relevant charity and regulatory requirements
- Lead on audit processes and liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies
- Develop and maintain robust financial policies and procedures
Team Leadership
- Manage, mentor, and develop a small finance team
- Foster a high-performance, collaborative culture within the finance function
Board & Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare and present financial reports to the Board and relevant committees
- Act as a key financial advisor to senior stakeholders across the organisation
Fundraising Support
- Provide financial input into funding applications, grant reporting, and donor communications
- Support the development of sustainable funding models and ensure financial transparency in fundraising activities
Candidate Profile
Experience & Qualifications
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Proven experience in a charity, not-for-profit organisation, or public sector body is essential
- Strong understanding of charity regulation, compliance, and reporting requirements
Skills & Competencies
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop finance teams
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with excellent attention to detail
- Experience building and improving financial controls and processes
- Commercial awareness with the ability to support organisational growth
- Strong communication skills, with confidence engaging at senior and Board level
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery
Working Arrangements
- Hybrid model: 3 days per week in the South Dublin office, with flexibility for remote working
