General Manager

About The Company

Your new employer is a small, dynamic business based in West Cork, offering the opportunity to step away from corporate politics and enjoy a more relaxed pace of life while doing impactful work. We operate in a tech-focused environment where innovation, curiosity and practical problem-solving are highly valued.

Working closely with a hands-on CEO, we foster a collaborative culture where leaders are prepared to work in the trenches when needed. Our size means your contribution is visible, your ideas matter, and there is real scope to shape the future of the business as we grow and respond to increasing competition.

The Work

As General Manager and right-hand to the CEO, you will play a pivotal role in leading our team, shaping strategy, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across the business.

  • Partner with the CEO to define and drive the company vision, operational strategy, and workforce planning.
  • Translate strategic goals into clear, actionable plans for growth, including organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operational planning.
  • Oversee company operations and employee productivity, building an inclusive, high-performing culture where people can thrive and meet business objectives.
  • Lead recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance reviews, and retention initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with national and local business regulations and take appropriate action when issues arise.
  • Analyze internal operations to identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency.
  • Implement business strategies and plans that align with short- and long-term objectives agreed with the CEO.
  • Oversee operations, HR, and accounting, working with the CEO to plan and allocate investment capital to meet near-term growth targets.
  • Monitor company performance, take corrective actions when needed, and provide detailed updates and forecasts.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Drive marketing initiatives to promote the company effectively and move beyond past reliance on word-of-mouth referrals.
  • Lead, coach, and support staff by setting clear expectations, providing training, and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Safeguard company assets, information security, and control structures.
  • Manage cost effectiveness, including sourcing and purchasing equipment and overseeing stock management.
  • Coordinate cross-departmental projects, aligning resources and timelines to ensure successful delivery.
  • Research, recommend, and implement strategic technology solutions and information technology strategies that support our long-term direction.

The Person

The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with a strong technical background, a creative approach to business, and a desire to manage rather than be managed. You are comfortable in a small business environment and enjoy working closely with a CEO who is actively involved in day-to-day operations.

  • Significant experience in a similar industry, ideally within a small or growing business.
  • Proven track record in general management, operations, and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Technical background with a genuine curiosity for new technologies and how they can support business goals.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills, able to turn high-level vision into practical plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Solid understanding of HR, operations, and basic accounting practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building trust with staff, customers, and partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, prioritize competing demands, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Experience with performance management, coaching, and developing people.
  • Comfort with decision-making, problem-solving, and taking ownership of outcomes.
  • Preferred attributes include adaptability, resilience, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • A creative mindset and commercial awareness to drive marketing and identify new opportunities in a competitive market.

The Benefits

Joining offers the chance to combine meaningful leadership responsibility with a quality lifestyle in West Cork, away from the traditional corporate environment.

  • Opportunity to work closely with the CEO and influence the strategic direction of a growing business.
  • Varied and challenging role where your broad experience will be utilized and appreciated.
  • Relaxed, supportive work culture with minimal corporate politics.
  • Scope to introduce new technologies, processes, and ideas that have a direct impact on the business.
