About Your New Job

As an Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in preparing and submitting competitive cost estimates for diverse commercial and public sector mechanical projects, ensuring full control over costs from tender through to project completion.

Main Responsibilities:

  • You will analyse project drawings, specifications, and related documents to prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates and tender submissions.
  • You will conduct detailed take-offs and quantify all materials, labour, plant, and specialist services relevant to the project.
  • You will liaise closely with architects, engineers, project managers, and procurement teams to obtain the necessary technical and commercial information for bid preparation.
  • You will source quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, review and compare quotations, negotiate terms, and build lasting supply chain relationships.
  • You will develop and maintain pricing databases, benchmarks, and historical cost data to enhance the accuracy and competitiveness of future tenders.
  • You will identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and technical risks as part of the bid process.
  • You will present estimates, recommendations, and risk assessments to senior management clearly and supportively to inform bid/no-bid decisions.
  • You will support handover of successful tenders to site teams, providing guidance and advice on pricing strategies, cost plans, and budgetary controls.
  • You will track market trends, cost fluctuations, and emerging industry technologies, adjusting systems and assumptions where required to maintain a competitive edge.
  • You will support improvements in estimating procedures, digital tools, and cost control processes as part of continuous improvement initiatives.

 

What Skills You Need

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Estimator, ideally within the construction or mechanical industry in Ireland.
  • Strong proficiency with estimating software, Excel, and digital take-off tools.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical, and reporting skills.
  • Solid understanding of construction techniques, methodologies, and procurement strategies.
  • Effective verbal and written communication for working cross-functionally and negotiating with suppliers.
  • High attention to detail and organisational skills.
