A leading manufacturing organisation is seeking a motivated Head of Engineering to lead the Engineering & Facilities function. This role is responsible for ensuring all plant, equipment, systems, and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. The position oversees engineering strategy, technical decision-making, maintenance standards, continuous improvement, and capital planning, ensuring engineering supports business growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Strategy
- Establish engineering standards, best practices, and documentation protocols.
- Oversee system design, technical decisions, and technology selection.
- Ensure all engineering outputs meet quality, reliability, and safety standards.
- Plan resources, infrastructure, and future technology investments.
Maintenance & Reliability
- Lead root cause analysis for critical incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain and improve plant and facility standards.
- Drive preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
Project & Budget Management
- Deliver engineering projects on time and within budget.
- Manage departmental budgets and resource allocation.
- Conduct cost-benefit analysis and manage vendor relationships.
People Management & Collaboration
- Lead and develop engineering and facilities teams.
- Ensure strong communication across departments and with external partners.
- Maintain knowledge sharing and technical documentation.
Continuous Improvement
- Monitor KPIs and optimise engineering performance.
- Prioritise initiatives aligned with business objectives.
- Drive ongoing improvements in reliability and processes.
Facilities & Compliance
- Oversee facilities maintenance and contractor management.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Report performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Engineering leadership experience in manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Strong background in mechanical, electrical, or automation engineering.
- Experience managing teams and delivering complex projects.
- Knowledge of maintenance reliability and continuous improvement.
- Budget management and vendor negotiation experience.
Desirable
- Experience in food or FMCG manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with CMMS, automation systems, or industrial IT.
- Lean or Six Sigma training.
