I'm currently working an Environmental Engineer role with one of our pharmaceutical clients in West Dublin. This highly sought after company offers excellent salary and benefits package, as well as 26 days annual leave. This is a permanent role.
Role Overview
This role is responsible for leading and delivering environmental compliance, sustainability, and continuous improvement programmes at a pharmaceutical manufacturing site operating under an Integrated Environmental Licence (IEL). The position ensures full compliance with Irish and EU environmental legislation while acting as the primary interface with regulatory authorities. It plays a critical role in embedding best-in-class environmental stewardship across site operations, supporting permitting and statutory reporting, and driving measurable improvements in environmental performance aligned with site and corporate sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
The role acts as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Integrated Environmental Licence and all associated environmental permits. This includes maintaining in-depth knowledge of licence conditions, emission limits, monitoring requirements, and compliance obligations. The role prepares, reviews, and submits statutory reports to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other authorities, including Annual Environmental Reports, and serves as the primary contact during inspections, audits, and licence reviews. Environmental Management Systems are implemented and maintained in line with ISO 14001 standards and corporate governance requirements.
The role leads or supports Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Risk Assessments (ERAs) for process changes, capital projects, and site expansions, partnering closely with Engineering, EHS, Supply Chain, and Project teams to integrate environmental requirements from design through commissioning. It evaluates and recommends new technologies and process improvements that deliver sustainability and compliance benefits.
Waste and resource management is a core focus, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste, pharmaceutical residues, recycling, recovery, and disposal. The role drives initiatives in waste minimisation, water conservation, energy optimisation, and material reuse.
Leadership, Culture, and Continuous Improvement
The position champions environmental awareness and compliance through training, mentoring, and engagement, fostering a strong environmental and safety culture where EHS is embedded as a core business value. It supports site and corporate sustainability goals such as carbon reduction, water stewardship, and circular economy initiatives, collaborating with regional and global teams on reporting and performance metrics. The role contributes to and leads environmental improvement projects with measurable outcomes while providing ongoing EHS expertise and governance support to site leadership as business needs evolve.
