The Work
As an Ecologist, you will:
- Conduct comprehensive field surveys covering bat activity, breeding birds, mammals, habitat mapping, invasive species, amphibians/reptiles, and water quality.
- Prepare detailed ecological reports such as baseline, screening, and Appropriate Assessment reports.
- Analyze data and create maps using tools like QGIS or ArcGIS.
- Maintain accurate field records and data logs.
- Assist senior staff in project delivery, client interactions, and coordination with statutory bodies and planning authorities.
- Contribute to project planning, timelines, and tracking deliverables.
- Manage and calibrate ecological field equipment and oversee field logistics.
- Participate in team meetings, promoting continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Support the ecology/consultancy team during peak survey seasons.
The Person
We are looking for a candidate with:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Ecology, Environmental Science, Zoology, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of post-qualification experience in ecological consultancy or a similar area.
- Experience in conducting and reporting on ecological surveys (habitat, mammal, bird, bat).
- Knowledge of Irish and EU wildlife legislation and ecological survey guidelines.
- Proven skills in writing detailed, accurate, and structured reports.
- Strong time management abilities to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Physical fitness for outdoor work in various weather conditions and during unsociable hours.
- A full clean EU driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
