The Automation Manager is responsible for delivering effective operational support, rapid breakdown response, structured troubleshooting, and leading root cause analysis for automation, control, electrical, and data-related issues. This role leads the Operations Support Help Desk team, ensuring issues are prioritised, escalated, investigated, and resolved in a timely and controlled manner.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Lead day-to-day performance of the automation support team, ensuring timely response and resolution of shopfloor issues.
  • Prioritise workload across breakdowns, recurring issues, corrective actions, and planned support activities.
  • Participate in operational, breakdown, and root cause review meetings to ensure issues are understood, assigned, and tracked.
  • Drive troubleshooting and root cause analysis across automation, electrical, control systems, and data issues.
  • Maximise equipment availability by supporting rapid recovery and reducing repeat failures.
  • Support HITT activities through technical input, data analysis, and action ownership.
  • Deliver automation improvement projects focused on OEE, reliability, and process efficiency.
  • Ensure all activities comply with safety, quality, GMP, cybersecurity, and change control standards.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Systems, or related field.
  • Strong experience leading automation or production support teams in high-volume manufacturing.
  • Proven ability to manage operational support, including prioritisation, escalation, and follow-up.
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMI, SCADA, batch systems, industrial networks, and manufacturing data systems.
  • Experience with systems such as Ignition, FactoryTalk, Rockwell PLCs, SAP, WMS, or OEE (desirable).
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability across technical systems.
  • Experience delivering improvement projects focused on OEE, reliability, and repeat issue reduction.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across operations, engineering, IT, and leadership.
  • Commercial and operational awareness, balancing priorities, compliance, and risk.
  • Strong analytical skills, using data to drive decisions.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and effective in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience managing change in manufacturing, including testing, communication, and implementation.
