Injuries Resolution Board

About Us

The Injuries Resolution Board is Ireland’s independent State Body which resolves personal injury claims. The organisation was originally established in 2004, as the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) to support the fair, prompt, and transparent resolution of personal injuries claims without the need for unnecessary litigation.  That commitment continues, and has now been extended and enhanced.

The Personal Injuries Resolution Board Act broadens our remit, and from the 14th December 2023, our name has changed to reflect this, and in particular the introduction of our new mediation services. We are a self-funded public body and a key pillar in contributing to reform of the insurance sector and the personal injuries environment. We generate millions of euros in savings which would otherwise be spent on processing claims, leading to higher costs for policy-holders.

The Injuries Resolution Board continues to develop its services in response to the changing needs of claimants, respondents, businesses, and wider society. By providing accessible and efficient resolution pathways, the organisation aims to reduce stress, delays, and unnecessary costs for all parties involved in the claims process. The Board remains committed to delivering fair and impartial outcomes while supporting a more streamlined and customer-focused claims system.

Alongside its assessment and mediation services, the Board plays an important role in supporting greater transparency and understanding within the personal injuries environment through research, reporting, and data-led insights. A continued focus on innovation, customer experience, and service delivery remains central to the organisation’s long-term strategy, ensuring its services continue to adapt to the needs of the public and contribute positively to the wider insurance environment.
