Executive Manager Corporate Governance  | Permanent | Co. Cork

Our client  is seeking an Assistant Principal Officer as Executive Manager, Corporate Governance.

This senior leadership position is a rewarding and challenging role for an individual who can demonstrate the ability to lead and manage the Corporate Governance arrangements of the Authority and the Corporate Affairs unit.

About your new employer

Sigmar is recruiting for an independent statutory body responsible for the regulation of the sea-fisheries and the seafood production sectors. Our client promotes compliance with the EU Common Fisheries Policy, sea-fisheries law and food safety law relating to fish and fish products.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage compliance with the statutory and code of practice governance requirements
  • Lead on the execution, oversight and reporting on the Strategy 2024-2026.
  • Provide leadership to all staff within his/her -area of responsibility to ensure delivery of targets and objectives set out in the Business Plan andStrategy by promoting teamwork and developing the capability of the team through mentoring and coaching.
  • Support the work of the Audit & Risk Committee.
  • Lead on organisational business planning and reporting processes for the organisation
  • Provide the Authority and the Management Board with information and reports on corporate affairs related areas as appropriate and any other such reports as may be required from time to time to facilitate executive decision making.
  • Oversee the preparation of the Annual Report for submission and publication
  • Proactively engage with the Internal Audit function and oversee the operation, administration, and implementation of the Central Audit Tracker.
  • The role holder will support the Chief Risk Officer in the effective implementation of Risk Management policy.
  • Ensure compliance with key statutory obligations including data protection, freedom of information, sustainability reporting and protected disclosures.
  • Perform the role of Data Officer as defined in the Data Sharing and Governance handbook.
  • Responsibility for management of the Data Protection Officer function for the and those duties assigned to the DPO in the Data Protection Policy.
  • Ensure that corporate policies and procedures are documented, updated and aligned with best practice and communicated to others.
  • Support the Executive Chair fulfilling her/his Accountable Officer responsibilities with respect to good governance and to maintain the highest standards of prudence, propriety and regularity.
  • Monitor changes to the legal framework within which the operates and provide guidance to the Authority, Management Board and Senior Management Team to ensure continued compliance with that framework.
  • Report to the Authority and Management Board on the implementation and delivery of the Oversight and Performance and Delivery agreement.
  • Manage internal staff and external suppliers to design, develop and deliver the communications strategy.
  • Report periodically on the implementation, and effectiveness of the communications strategy.
  • Oversee national promotional and awareness campaigns of SFPA through the provision of effective communication campaigns across a variety of channels.

What Skills You Need

  • Possess a Business, Legal or Corporate Governance related Third Level qualification (Minimum Level 8).
  • Possess at least five years’ experience post-qualification professional experience in a Communications, Corporate Affairs, Corporate Governance or related field role.
  • Some knowledge, of the 2016 Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies, GDPR Legislation, Law Enforcement Directive, Data Protection Act, Data Governance Act, Freedom of Information Act, AIE Act and the Protected Disclosures Act. A recognised qualification in any of these areas would be an advantage.
