About Your New Job as an R&D Engineer:

  • Leadership and Technical Support: Provide leadership and technical support to obtain approval for products in new countries, analyse and manage customer feedback and complaints, and describe and evaluate continuous improvement efforts.
  • Root Cause Analyses: Lead the effort to perform root cause analyses, resolve and implement product fixes, modifications, and design enhancements.
  • Product Issue Troubleshooting: Track, troubleshoot, and identify the root cause for product issues escalated to the design engineer.
  • Stakeholder Interaction: Interact with all product stakeholders (e.g., external vendors, customers, production, quality) to ensure safe product performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with and lead internal cross-functional teams, as well as contract manufacturers and design firms, to ensure that system design, architecture, and verification/validation meet the design input.
  • Technical Expertise: Serve as the technical expert (subject matter expert) for the product platform(s).
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize structured problem-solving techniques and statistical methods to inform data-driven analysis and decision-making.
  • Process Optimization: Partner with internal departments (e.g., Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality) to optimize processes, materials, and logistics for commercial product platforms.
  • Project Management: Depending on the project scope and size, take on Project Management by creating, driving, communicating, and executing project plans, tasks, and deliverables. Manage time to meet project deadlines.
  • Quality Compliance: Build Quality into all aspects of work by maintaining compliance with all quality requirements.
  • Product Transfer Support: Support the transfer of new products from engineering to manufacturing.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance to other engineers & technicians and may supervise other team members.

What Skills You Need as an R&D Engineer:

  • Educational Background: A graduate in Mechanical Engineering/Technical field with typically 3-5 years in a medical device environment or equivalent.
  • Medical Device Experience: Experience with neuro vasculature medical products for Acute Ischemic Stroke or other devices to treat Haemorrhagic Stroke is an advantage.
  • Product Development Skills: Product and process development skills in medical devices are a must.
  • Material and Process Knowledge: Strong knowledge of materials and process capabilities for catheter-based medical device implants.
  • Statistical Techniques: Strong working knowledge and ability to use statistical techniques, Six Sigma, and DFSS methodology.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in MATLAB is an advantage. Fundamental knowledge of Solid Works, ACAD, and FE.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work within a team; fully motivated to achieve and demonstrate best practices in line with company objectives.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills to enhance collaboration and writing skills to prepare/execute/communicate plans and reports.
  • Strategic Planning: Strategic Planner with successful scheduling & execution results.
  • Independence: Self-starter must be able to work independently with minimum supervision or direction.
