About Your New Job as a Principal R&D Engineer
- Design and Development: Design, develop, troubleshoot, and provide technical skills during research and product development.
- Physician Interaction: Represent the company while interacting with physicians to distill their needs into product requirements and concepts.
- Technical Innovation: Provide direction in technical innovation across the department and identify and mitigate technological risks throughout the design process.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface effectively and build relationships with team members, other staff, and key technology and component suppliers, both locally and globally.
- Project Management: Progress projects from concept phase into commercialization phase and play a key role on the product/process/engineering/technical fronts.
- Mentorship: Coach, mentor, and delegate work to less experienced engineers and partake in cross-site Technical Forums.
What Skills You Need
- Educational Background: Degree level 8 in Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or PhD with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Team Player: Dynamic team player that can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional teams.
- Medical Device Experience: Extensive medical device product development experience with a strong proven track record in innovation and technical advisory.
- Technical Passion: Passionate about engineering concepts and principles with a thrill for understanding how and why things work.
- Influence and Initiative: Proven influencer with skills in driving large-scale technical initiatives.
- Engineering Expertise: Extensive knowledge and skills in component and system design, materials (polymers and metals), sterilization of medical devices, test method development, design for six sigma principles, CAD (Solidworks preferred), pre-clinical evaluations, physician interactions, knowledge of anatomical use conditions, system requirements development, design control, and application of ISO standards for medical devices.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication and presentation skills.
