Key Responsibilities are not limited to but will include:
- Strong understanding of relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and standards e.g. ISO45001, OSHA, local regulations ROI & NI.
- Play a key role in maintaining, continuously improving and promoting a strong EHS culture and management systems across all sites in Ireland.
- Work with the Regulatory & Compliance team to achieve the relevant accreditation at all sites and assist during external audits.
- Liaise with regulators and third parties as appropriate in relation to inspections and incidents.
- Support the Quality and Compliance Manager to develop and implement appropriate and effective EHS policies and procedures.
- Maintain EHS training needs analysis, training matrix, organise and/or conduct training programmes to the appropriate standard & maintain accurate records.
- Develop and implement EHS procedures, regularly review and update existing documents to ensure alignment with current regulations and operations practices and effectively communicating updates to all employees.
- Ensure all risk assessments are current and comprehensive, maintaining Site Risk Assessment Matrix and implementing standard operating procedures.
- Assist in the investigation of incidents by gathering relevant data, identifying the root causes, analysing trends, and developing appropriate corrective and preventative actions while overseeing their successful implementation.
- Conduct internal health, safety and environmental audits to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and report on assigned EHS Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on a weekly and monthly basis, providing accurate and timely information for management review.
- Monitor and coach management and employees on compliance with EHS procedures, incident investigation, risk assessment and safety inspections or audits.
- Assist in the development, coordination and testing of site-specific Emergency Response Plans and Divisional Business Continuity Plans.
- Development and maintenance of the Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental documentation, policies and data.
- Consult with the HR department to actively promote and prioritise a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with standards, processes and permits.
- Interpretation and application of legislation, industry best practices and corporate policies.
- Lead in-house health and safety training and oversee the on-boarding of new employees from a safety perspective.
- Develop and manage an annual Health and Safety plan, ensuring delivery of all initiatives continuous progress.
- Identify and assess training gaps and liaise with HR in relation to both H&S and CPD training requirements.
- Overseeing H&S compliance with EU GDPR requirements
- Review current H&S legislation to ensure full compliance with applicable EU legislation, regulations, standards, and internal policies with a goal to minimise operation risks, occupational health issues, accidents and injuries across the site on the Island of Ireland
- Liaise and communicate with regulatory authorities (HSA, HSE, etc.) as required.
- Complete customer questionnaires as required.
- Contribute to projects and initiatives that support the ongoing development of the organisation.
- Carry out any additional ad-hoc duties as required, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to business needs.
- Ensure full compliance with risk-assessed company policies and procedures including those relating to IT Security, Health and Safety.
You will be responsible for maintaining and developing programs in conjunction with HR and Senior Management that promote and embed the company culture across all sites. These programs should align with and support the broader EHS strategy with particular emphasis on safeguarding the mental health and overall wellbeing of all employees.
A key objective is to foster a supportive, open and safe environment where employees can make suggestions for improvements or highlight areas of concern. Establishment and management of a programme of rewards & recognition for such suggestions.
While you will oversee the co-ordination of all EHS activities to ensure compliance with local legislation, it is expected that certain specific responsibilities will be delegated to site level teams. This approach is designed to drive engagement and accountability for EHS throughout the organisation.
What are the role requirements?
- 2-3 years’ experience in similar role
- Third level qualification in health & safety/environment
- Full driver’s licence and willingness to routinely travel to other Group sites.
- High level of computer literacy including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong time management skills, with ability to prioritise tasks effectively and meet deadlines consistently.
- Strong communication skills with ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation including senior management.
