Assay Development Scientist

Job description


This Sligo based company are seeking a Scientist focusing on Assay Development to join a growing R&D team in the diagnostics industry

In this role, you will be responsible for developing, optimising, and validating clinical biomarker lateral flow assays and supporting the transfer of assays into commercialisation for multiple species

You will report to the R&D Manager and work alongside the product team to design and implement biomarker and diagnostic testing development programs and support data analysis for clinical studies

  • You will be Discovering, Characterizing, Clinically Validating and Utilizing Innovative Biomarkers and Potential Companion Diagnostics
  • You’ll be responsible for Design, Implementation and day to day oversight of Biomarker and Diagnostic Test Strip Development and Analysis
  • Help Design and support Biomarker Research Strategies
  • You will be tasked with supporting the Development and Validation of Clinically Applicable Diagnostic Assays with external service laboratories if required
  • Coordinate and monitor Sample Collection, handling and analysis in product development and Clinical Studies
  • You will look after Laboratory Equipment and stock
  • Collaborate with biostatistics and bioinformatics to design and contribute to Data Analysis Plans
  • You’ll conduct R&D directed toward Biomarker Optimisation
  • Prepare and review Scientific Reports and Compliance related documentation
  • Develop and execute Protocols
  • You’ll play a key role on Projects coordinating the Transfer to Manufacture of the Final Product



  • You’ll need your Bachelor’s Degree in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or in a related scientific discipline
  • Experience in In-vitro Diagnostics or commercial product development
  • Hands-on experience developing and Optimizing Immunoassays protein/antibody labelling
  • You must have the ability to execute Complex Experiments independently, perform in-depth Statistical Analysis, interpret experimental results, and make Sound Conclusions
  • Experience working within a Regulated Medical Device Industry with knowledge or experience in FDA submissions is a plus (but not a requirement)
