SENIOR RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

General Function:
Responsible for and has the authority to manage development of new products and provide technical services in the areas of production, product quality, health regulations, specifications, and labelling/packaging.

Main Duties:

1. To design and develop new product, modify existing products and develop product line extensions as identified by the Marketing Departments in Europe/ Japan/USA.

2. To ensure that all products are developed in a controlled manner and adhere to global and plant procedures and regulatory requirements.

3. Provide technical service to other departments in product quality, manufacturing concerns and complaint investigation.

4. Ensure activities on assigned projects are within budgets and schedules.

5. Produce regular progress reports on assigned projects.

6. Submit new product ideas for consideration and generate product development proposals

7. Collect and analyse pertinent information and make recommendations with respect to project patent agreements.

8. Control the transfer of new products to production.

9. Monitoring of competitor product releases and evaluation of competitor products when applicable

10. Keep up to date with current changes in technology and regulatory affairs.

11. Perform operations in accordance with established safe working procedures and general safety rules ensuring that attention is always given to special hazards associated in your area of work.

12. Ensure compliance with relevant Company and Corporate requirements and legislation governing health and safety as principally contained in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 1993.

Personnel Specification:

Engineering degree or equivalent with a thorough working knowledge of engineering principles essential. Knowledge and understanding of new product development process in health care environment desirable. Experience in plastics fabrication process desirable. Initiative, creativity, resourcefulness and ability to work independently are essential. In general, an ideas person.
