Applications are invited for the role of Senior Scientist - Clinical Testing & Evaluation in Research & Development

Reporting to the Principal Scientist with Clinical testing and evaluation the candidate will provide scientific evidence to support product claims by designing and performing in-house product studies, within the timeframes of NPD. He/she will also investigate innovative applications for in-house instruments to improve cosmetic product efficacy and create novel claims.

Scope of Job

Work closely within a team of 5 Claim Support Testing Scientists. Coach junior members of the team. Design and conduct studies up to complex levels. Liaise with NPD Claim Support Scientists, Formulation Chemists, Microbiologists and Product Safety Manager. External contacts with test volunteers, general practitioner, dermatologist, statistician, information technologists, instrumentation suppliers, external testing houses, academic contacts and industry peers.

Key Results Areas

•         Investigate, analyse, select or create test methods and test designs to support NPD product claims

•         Assess suitability of established test methods

•         Design and develop new test methods (including complex studies)

•         Identify risks and implement contingencies

•         Organise and perform tests following the defined NPD Test Process

•         Identify goals, negotiate availability of test investigators and agree timelines

•         Complete the Test Process study documentation

•         Conduct or supervise complex studies

•         Statistically analyse data and form scientifically valid conclusions from studies

•         Perform standard statistical analysis or liaise with external statistics consultant for more complex analysis

•         Form conclusions supported by statistical results

•         Translate results into consumer understandable format

•         Investigate and create novel approaches to innovative claims

•         Create a planned programme to investigate new instrumentation, test methods and novel claims

•         Implement the plan, regularly review progress and present findings to team members and other R&D colleagues as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

PhD level scientific discipline with 1 year working in a similar role in the cosmetic / pharmaceutical industry.

or

Degree level scientific discipline with 4 years working in a similar role in the cosmetic / pharmaceutical industry.
